Dear Max,
Tonight we went to St. George so you could see your Grandma. She is living in a care center because she has
dementia. She has been there since September 2008, 5 months. She has good days and bad days. I can't wait to tell you all about her and her amazing life. She is such a brilliant lady with determination and strength beyond what I could
measure. I have such a deep love and respect for her. She raised your daddy to be an amazing man and I'm so grateful she had the courage to accept the gospel as a teenager. Because of her decision to become a member of the church her children were raised with the gospel truth and you, her grandchild, have this blessing.
Tonight my heart broke a bit when we went in to see Grandma. We have visited together with you about 7 times since you arrived in December. However, tonight she couldn't remember who you were. I think of all the nights that we sat around Grandma's kitchen table and your daddy and I would tell her of our heart ache to be parents and she would cry with us, she wanted and waited so long for you and I hate that you are finally here and we have been given this challenge of
dementia. I thought back to one of our visits in December when she was holding you and she would just breath you in. She loves the way you smell and then she said "Please let him know how much I love him!" "of course" we said. Max, I do want you to know how much your Grandma loves you and how long she has waited for you to come to our family. She, I think more than anyone else, prayed harder for you. Sometimes I felt that she was praying harder than even your Dad and I. She would always put our families name on the prayer role at the temple, every week. Her desire to see your daddy with his own children was an inspiration to me to keep fighting for children. She has given our family some amazing treasures in her lifetime. The moments when she has clarity her joy and happiness for you is overwhelming. You are so lucky to have a Grandma like this. I know that she will be an example and inspiration to you through out your life as you grow into a wonderful young man. I love you Max. And never forget how much your Grandma loves you too!
