Happy Birthday to Daddy!

December 8, 2009
Dear Max,
Today is Daddy's Birthday! He is 34 years old! It's crazy to think that last year we celebrated Daddy's birthday in the Hospital with you. I will never forget, they had just moved us from the PICU floor to the pediatric floor and it was just about dinner time. Grammie had come down that morning and had been in the hospital with us all day. She suggested to Daddy and I that she babysit and we go out to dinner. I hadn't left the hospital in over 24 hours! It was Grammie's first time babysitting you and our first time as parents leaving you with a sitter. Is that bad that it was only 28 hours after we met you? Anyway we went to dinner at the outback and like any professional parents we talked about our new baby the entire dinner.
This year we started celebrating Daddy's birthday a couple of days early. Daddy and I got tickets to go see the comedian Carrot Top. Remember, we saw him outside of the Luxor Hotel one day and got our picture taken with him. Our good friends the Ballantynes were kind enough to watch you so we could have a night out. We went to dinner at a Mexican restaurant then to the show. The show was really funny. We spent the entire 1 1/2 laughing. It felt good.

On Daddy's actual birthday, your daddy and I took the day off and we decided to capitalize on having a day off together during the week and took you to see Santa Clause for the first time. Last year was so busy that we never got a chance to take you. You were pretty nervous about seeing the big man in red. You had a death grip on me, I had to peal you off of me to sit on Santa's lap. You didn't cry...but you were definitely nervous. Now, as this was your first time seeing Santa, this was my first time taking a child to see Santa. So I was a bit confused on how the whole operation worked myself. I had these blissful images of me taking you up to Santa, Santa with a joyful voice would say "Why Hello, little feller, come sit on my lap!" and I would simply place you on Santa's lap. You would have a big smile on your face. Santa would be thrilled to see such a happy little boy and continue by asking "What do you want for Christmas little boy?" And you would talk with your eye's... since you can't tell him yet. We would snap the most adorable picture to cherish forever. Well, here is the reality of how it worked. I remember my mom telling me that Santa has lots of helpers around to help him see all the little boys and girls cause he simply can't do it all on his own. Well, let's just say that some helpers are better than others. This is how it went down...
I walked up to Santa holding you. I'm telling you all about Santa and what a nice happy man he is who brings us our presents. I start to hand you to Santa and he says "WAIT!"
What? Wait?
"Yeah - don't hand me the child until they are ready to take the picture!" Santa says
I'm thinking to myself, are you kidding? When is Max suppose to tell you what he wants for Christmas? This is not how I saw this.
Santa then says "OK, hand me your son" So I peal you off of me and sit you on Santa's lap. I start to turn around to walk out of picture shot when I hear a fearful Santa say "Take him back! Take him back! Take him back!"
What? Santa is panicking? How can this be - you have children sitting on your lap all day long! Then I thought - oh no! Did Max have an accident on Santa? What is the problem?
Santa says to me, "She is not ready to take the picture, I thought she was ready - but she's not!"
Are you kidding me? Santa would not allow you to sit on his lap for an extra couple of seconds before she was ready to take your picture! It was hilarious.
Finally - the picture lady was ready and I sat you down. Now - I was so concerned about getting you to smile, that I really didn't even look at what Santa was doing. Well, here it is... Your first picture with Santa!

Oh but the fun doesn't stop there. As soon as we were done with the picture Santa sets you down on your feet and let's go as if to say "there you go little feller" - and send you on your way!
I'm yelling "Wait! He doesn't walk yet!" running over to your aid. It was a close call. Santa says "How old is he?" Concerned that you are way behind for your age. "He just turned one!"
"Oh?!" So you look a little big for your age...

After our picture fun with Santa we headed to the food court for some lunch. Then off to the Movie. Your daddy choose to see the new Twilight Saga movie New Moon. I think he was being a team player! It was a good movie, you didn't fall right asleep, so the first 30 minutes or so was a bit painful pacing the foyer of the theater. Luckily their was only 4 other people in the theater and you weren't too loud. After the Movie we met up with Auntie Andrea and went to dinner at the Claim Jumper. After dinner we went to Opportunity Village, an outdoor Christmas light display. It was really fun, but really cold! It was a fun day, Daddy said he had a great time and really liked spending the day with his family. We love you Daddy! By the way - I hooked you up Max, Daddy got some money and a card from you.

Their is a train ride you can take there. We decided to wait until next year, as we were freezing at a walking pace, so we could hardly imagine trying to keep warm at "train pace"

You in front of the Harrah's Display. They did a Candy Land Theme.

We had you nice and snuggled up!

Tis The Season...Let the Traditions Begin

Saturday, December 5, 2009
Dear Max,
I love this time of year - and how full of traditions it is. Yesterday we put up our Christmas tree and that means that we get to sleep under the tree! When I was growing up our family would always sleep under the tree on the first night after we got the tree up. This was always so fun, cause our big Christmas tree was downstairs and our bedrooms were upstairs, so it seemed so cool to be able to sleep all night down stairs! We would stay up and watch Christmas movies, pop popcorn and drink hot chocolate. Daddy and I have carried this tradition on in our family and for the past 9 Christmas' the two of us have slept under the tree. This year we made and extra big bed for all of us to sleep and decided that we would watch Elf.

Trying to get a picture of the three of us... This is as good as it was getting...

We got our big bed made...

You had your bottle...

Watched the movie for a little bit...

Watched a little bit more...

And then started to leave... this should have been our warning. You were so confused that we were going to sleep there. You tossed and turned and tossed and turned. Finally you fell asleep. Then at one point in the night Daddy and I woke up to find you had crawled off the bed and was sleeping on the floor. We decided it was time to put you in your crib to finish sleeping the night there. Maybe next year you will make it through the night. We love you Max!

Your Daddy is Super Funny!

Saturday, December 5, 2009
Dear Max,
Oh Max, I had to come and quickly write to you. Your daddy is so funny. Tonight we were running a couple of errands and you were in your car seat in the back of daddy's truck. All of a sudden you start chanting "Da - ddy" "Da - ddy" "Da - ddy"
I look at your daddy - "What's this?"
Your daddy is laughing..."I didn't think he got it?"
"What do you mean?" I ask
Apparently the other day you and daddy were at home and one of your favorite toys batteries had gone dead, so daddy (the super daddy he is) changed the batteries in your toy and the toy started working again. You were apparently so happy and appreciative to daddy that you made him feel like a super hero. So daddy started chanting
"Da - ddy" "Da - ddy" "Da - ddy"
What do you know... three day's later we start hearing
"Da - ddy" "Da - ddy" "Da - ddy"
I love your daddy so much and want you to know what a great daddy he is. We should chant for him more often! He works so hard and does so much for you. He loves you so much and doesn't want to miss a thing. I'm not sure what other daddy's are like, but this daddy has never missed a doctors appointment or any other important moment in your life. So I say you have it right! "probablyDa - ddy" "Da - ddy" "Da - ddy"....

"Black" Friday

Friday, November 28, 2009
Dear Max,
The day after Thanksgiving, is better known as "Black Friday" because lots and lots of people go shopping on this day. Max, it's crazy, people wake up in the middle of the night just to be the first one's at stores to get great deals on Christmas gifts. Good news for us is as long as we believe in Santa Clause he does all the toy making and we don't have to go and stand in those crazy lines in the middle of the night! So just keep believing in Santa. So while millions of nonbelievers were out shopping Friday morning, we were sleeping in and relaxing. We decided that it was a better idea to go swimming than to get in the shower and get ready for the day! So we enjoyed some time in the pool and hot tub!

You and Cousin Natalie...You two sure do like playing together.

Natalie has so much to say to you!

Got your suit on... you are ready to go!
Unfortunately not everyone was ready to go...but you make the best out of it...

By Playing Trucks. You LOVE to play trucks! You have the best truck noise too!

I hope your getting all those passengers to their destination in safety!

Ready for some swimming at the pool!

Daniel hit a mile stone at the pool. He swam for the first time with out a floating just a life jacket!

He loved the new found swimming freedom!

Later that night we finally got ready for the day and went out to dinner at a Mexican restaurant and then to the temple to see the lights! We met up with our cousins (The Laub Family) and even got to see your new cousin Jaxon. You two are just a few months apart. Suzie and I enjoyed growing up together and we hope you and Jaxon do as well. It was so fun to meet up with them and visit. We love their family so much and are so glad we got to see them!

Our Family at the temple (minus daddy - he had to go back to work)

Grampie talking with Ruthella. Now - you might be confused looking at this picture, Grampie with a purple cane and a lovely scarf! Don't be confused, Grampie doesn't normally walk with a cane, however, he has a hurt knee so he was using what was handy, which is a cane that your daddy gave to Grammie when she retired from teaching school. And as you can see from Grampie's attire he was not exactly prepared to be out in the cold. Grammie felt bad so she loaned him her scarf!

Our First Thanksgiving Together

Thursday, November 26, 2009

Dear Max,
Even though you had joined the world last Thanksgiving, this was our first Thanksgiving together. I'm not quite sure how you spent your Thanksgiving last year, but I know it was just 6 days after your surgery, so I'm guessing it was spent sleeping and recovering and waiting. Last year daddy and I did the same thing we did this year, we spent the day with Family and eating at Auntie Glitz, but there was an emptiness in our hearts and a sadness in our eyes that our family so tenderly waltzed around all day. This year was much different! There was lots of love, laughter and thankfulness at our Thanksgiving table this year. Max, we are so thankful for you and the love you bring into our hearts. I know that this moment I'm about to share with you will always be one of my all time favorite moments with you. You are just getting to the stage of us being able to say..."where is daddy?" and you will look right at him and smile. You are really good with where is Mommy, where is daddy and where is Cooper. However, while enjoying our Thanksgiving feast at the kiddy table. That's right! Daddy, Auntie Jali, Uncle Geary, Daniel, Natalie, You and I got our very own kiddy table this year. As I was saying, while we were enjoying our meal we were playing the Where is mommy, where is daddy game and we decided to try Where is Papa (Grampie) game, you stretched your neck and looked all around and suddenly you and Papa locked eye's and you got the biggest smile on your face and threw your arms up in the air with a big squeal! From across the room - Where is Papa! My eyes filled with tears. It's happened a lot lately!

Daddy and Max on your first Thanksgiving together

Mouth watering...Ready for some yummy food!

You know exactly what it is used for...just got to work on the coordination and you'll be feeding yourself in no time.

Max with Thanksgiving Dinner!

The day was not only filled with a yummy Thanksgiving dinner. You also hit another milestone. Thanks to your Auntie Candy, who coached you the entire way. You went up an entire flight of stairs on your own! That's right!! You are just growing up so fast!!!

At the end of your long journey. Thanks to Auntie Glitz's stairs!

What a great cheer leading squad you have!
Everyone was at the top waiting for the last stair! It was so much fun! We love you Max!!!

Where the Wild Things are... Part Deaux

Wednesday, November 25, 2009
Dear Max,
And the Wild Rumpus goes on! That's right we just didn't have enough fun the first time that we decided to do it all again with a Family Party on Wednesday night at Grammie and Grampie's. It was a lot of fun. Aunt Jali, Uncle Geary, Daniel, Natalie, Auntie Glitz, Uncle Dennis, Cookie, Dave, Breanna, Braden, Candy, Jim, Jaimee, Auntie Heidi, Uncle Zach, Olivia, Auntie Heather and Grammie Hein all came to your party! Much like the first time we watch the book on dvd, and then had our own wild rumpus. Daddy even put the boat up at Grammie's so we could all sail to the Where the Wild Things are island. And just like before our dinner was warm and waiting for us when we got back. It was so fun to celebrate again and I'm so glad that our family that was unable to join us on Saturday could come on Wednesday.

Yummy Food!

Treat Bag's

Decorations at Grammies

Auntie Heidi, Uncle Zach, Olivia, Auntie Heather and Grammie Hein brought you this diaper cake! Isn't it so cool! And their are A LOT of diapers in there! The best part of the diaper cake in yours and daddy's opinion was the hidden whoopee cushion!

Olivia and Daniel had a lot of fun playing with the whoopee cushion. And all the adults and more fun watching them play. Something about seeing a little thing let out a big noise that just had us all in stitches!

Watching Where the Wild Things Are

Still watching the movie!

Happy Birthday To You!
A BIG Costco cake to Share...your daddy was so happy!

That's a lot of cake for a little guy!
